The LGBT staff network, formed in 2013, won the top award in recognition of its work on tackling the topic of the intersection of LGBT and faith identities through debate, stories and celebrations.
The equality charity highlighted in particular the launch of the Stonewall’s publication Christian Role Models for LGBT Equality at York St John.
Fiona Thompson, Executive Dean and Chair of the LGBT Staff Network, says: This was a real surprise to us and we are absolutely delighted. This award recognises the importance of dialogue between people and groups in gaining mutual understanding and respect and we are grateful to Stonewall for honouring us in this way.
York St John University is currently ranked 61st by Stonewall in a list of Britain’s 100 friendliest workplaces for lesbian, gay and bi (LGB) staff.
